Submission Cover Letter Template
Consider using a more succinct format like a brief note or fungal-planet-style description before choosing the standard article format.
For research that requires significant introductory information, has novel or innovative methods, complex results, and/or significant taxonomic scope.
There is no upper limit to size but should typically be at least 4 pages otherwise it is likely more appropriate for a brief note. However, be concise and succinct whenever possible.
For research that has a limited and contained scope that is based on established methods. Does not require lengthy introductions, methods, results, etc.
Perfect for subjects that do not require traditional structured sections like nomenclatural discussions, new taxonomic combinations, notes on ecology, distribution reports, observational studies, etc.
Typically limited to 4 pages. Exceptions for specific works may be made by the editorial team on a case-by-case basis (e.g., long form essays or lengthy taxonomic keys).
Consider simplifying phylogenetic trees to illustrate relationships between taxa while including an unedited version in the supplementary files.
Use supplementary files for large files (like lists of observations, specimens examined, nucleotide alignments, and unedited trees).
Fungal Planet Description Sheet Style Template
For description of new or existing taxa. Typically only one taxon but could include the simultaneous description of a new genus and species.
Methods should be essentially entirely relegated to citation. Introduction, results, and discussion should be accomplished simply in the comments section after the taxonomic portion.
Is strictly limited to 3 pages: cover page, full-page figure, taxonomic page.
A full-page figure template is provided as an example of settings and formatting used which can be copied and modified as needed.
Simplify phylogenetic trees to illustrate relationships between taxa while including an unedited version in the supplementary files.
Use supplementary files for long lists of observations and/or specimens examined, nucleotide alignments, and unedited trees.
